FC Cincinnati Defeats Bethlehem Steel FC 1-0| Post Match Recap & Highlights

FC Cincinnati extends their impressive unbeaten streak to 11 with a 1-0 victory over Bethlehem Steel FC Saturday night. Jimmy McLaughlin redirected an Omar Cumming header in the 69th minute to out the home team ahead in front of 17,380 fans.FC Cincinnati moves to 9-2-4 in league play and currently sits third in the Eastern Conference with 31 points. Now unbeaten in 11 games, FC Cincinnati controlled the pace of play from the start on Saturday. Cincinnati relied heavily on set plays, posting a 7-2 advantage in the number of corners taken.

The lone goal of the match came off a corner. Cummings broke free in the middle of the box and received it square on his head directing the ball comfortably to McLaughlin standing right at the corner of the goal. A light flick of his boot and McLaughlin put the home team on top.

McLaughlin, who has started every game for FC Cincinnati, continued to be one of the team’s most reliable scorers coming up big for the squad. Bethlehem’s back line continually foiled most FCC chances as solid chances came few and far between early in the game. FC Cincy eventually wore down the defense and put pressure on opposing goalkeeper Simir Badr.

The FCC defense held strong helping keeper Mitch Hildebrandt record the shutout. Bethlehem’s best opportunity came during stoppage time late in the match as they saw a shot ounce just wide of the goal posts. Besides this shot, it was a quiet day for Cincy’s man between the pipes.

FC Cincinnati’s next matches come on the road. They will take on the Rochester Rhinos next Wed. July 6 followed by a game July 9 against St. Louis. Then Cincinnati returns home for their much anticipated friendly with Crystal Palace FC out of England.
