Rochester Rhinos End FC Cincinnati’s Unbeaten Streak | Post Match Recap
FC Cincinnati’s unbeaten streak has finally come to an end as the club lost 2-1 against the Rochester Rhinos Wednesday night. FCC drops to 9-3-4 with loss and still sits one point behind New York for second place in the Eastern Conference and seven points behind Louisville for the top spot.
A quick paced first half saw Rochester enter the locker room up 1-0 after Michael Garzi put away a loose ball from eight yards away. His 34th minute minute strike came from FC Cincinnati’s inability to clear the ball confidently which proved to be a continual issue throughout the game.
Overall Cincinnati had plenty of chances to score. They outshot the Rhinos 12-8 however the quality of shots favored Rochester. Half of their shots were on goal while on 25% of FCC’s counted as shots on goal. FCC also only took 3 shots in the first half to highlight their slow start.
Rochester went up 2-0 off a Steven Dos Santos penalty. Dos Santos was fouled by Cincinnati’s Harrison Delbridge in the box in the 64th minute.
FCC responded 10 minutes later when a crafty pass from Corben Bone led to Andrew Wiedeman being fouled by the Rhino keeper setting up a FCC penalty.
Sean “Ugo” Okoli tallied his team leading 8th goal of the season. Okoli is tied for fifth in the league for most goals. Okoli also sits second in the league with 44 shots, and leads the league with 24 shots on goal.
FCC did come away with a huge positive with the return of Austin Berry. The former MLS player has been out with injury since April 24. He came in as a sub seeing decent time off the bench. He is sure to add to the team depth that coach John Harkes is depending on with three games in 7 days this week.
FC Cincinnati returns to action Saturday when they continue their road trip playing St. Louis FC. Kickoff is set for 8:30 ET.
